The Wedeco quartz sleeve is a vital element in ultraviolet water purification systems, functioning as both a safeguard and an enhancer for Wedeco UV lamps. This sleeve is crafted from quartz, which contributes to the system’s overall effectiveness due to its durability and transparent optical qualities, crucial for UV sterilization efficiency. Quartz is selected for these sleeves because it is resistant to thermal shock and exhibits minimal thermal expansion, allowing it to tolerate variations in water temperature without suffering damage. The clear nature of quartz also facilitates the effective transmission of UV light, which is essential for the successful sterilization of water.
Nevertheless, as time passes, the sleeve may become clouded with mineral deposits or other impurities, which can impede the transmission of UV light. To ensure the system continues to operate effectively, it is recommended to clean the sleeve every 3 to 6 months, depending on the water quality and how frequently the system is used. The cleaning process involves detaching the sleeve, applying an appropriate detergent to remove the deposits, and thoroughly rinsing it with clean water to remove any remaining detergent.
The sleeve is designed with specific dimensions—910 mm in length and 25 mm in diameter, with one end open—to perfectly fit over compatible UV lamps (NRL 1880). This ensures it is properly positioned and protects the lamp from direct contact with water.
When handling the quartz sleeve, it is critical to implement safety measures. Be sure to deactivate the control unit before removing or installing the sleeve to prevent any electrical hazards and to avoid damaging the UV lamp. After cleaning and correctly positioning the sleeve, the control unit should be turned back on.
Additionally, it is crucial to avoid looking directly at the UV light when the lamp is on to protect your eyes from potential damage.
